'Game Testing' Job Scam Uncovered: Beijing Police Dismantle 9 Black Market Operations

Could you earn 200 yuan by just sitting in a room overnight while having your face scanned? This seemingly attractive job opportunity turned out to be a massive recruitment scam uncovered by Beijing police in September 2026. The job posting for "game testing" appeared on online part-time groups, claiming workers could "sleep and play on their phones" during an overnight shift from 8 PM to 6 AM, earning 100-200 yuan. The job also offered a 10-yuan referral bonus for each new person recruited. Xiao Li, a university student with previous experience in legitimate game testing, was initially drawn to this opportunity. However, when he arrived at the location, he found it drastically different from a real game testing company: a small room without computers or any gaming equipment. Staff members told applicants they needed to register payment accounts and complete facial verification for "game account creation." When Xiao Li checked his payment platform later, he discovered a new account registered under his name with 10,000 yuan flowing in and immediately out. After deeper investigation, Beijing police found the company was registered under a cultural media name but had no actual business operations. Its real purpose was collecting identity information from part-time workers to register personal payment accounts and online stores for overseas criminal groups to transfer illicit funds. Police launched a coordinated raid, dismantling nine criminal dens and arresting 21 suspects. Most victims were young people whose identities were exploited to create "tool accounts" for money laundering.
